Can You Help

We have cats and dogs
at our Center in need of
a home. Call us at 610.696.8712

Fevers

The following are only guidelines to your pet's health.

  • Dog's normal temperature 100°F to 102.5°F
  • Cat's normal temperature 100°F to 102.5°F
  • Dog's normal resting heartrate range 80-160
  • Cat's normal resting heartrate range 120-180

Wherever possible you should know your pet's normal temperature and heartrate. If your pet's temperature goes over 103°F degrees you should call the center immediately to discuss possible causes.

  • High Temperature:
Symptom's of an elevated temperature may vary enormously from lethargy to restless panting. Place a cool towel over your pet and call.
  • Low temperatures
can also be a risk to your pet - but warming it up must be done very carefully. Never use a heating pad. Fill soft bottles of water with warm water (to the touch) and place alongside your pet until its temperature returns to normal. Call us to discuss possible causes.
  • Heatstroke:
This is deadly for your dog or cat: unable to sweat they can only lose body heat by panting. Never leave your pet in a car on a warm day. Note that even on a 60 degree day the temperature inside a car can climb very rapidly.
