Bites

Bites are some of the most common problems for your pet: either bites from other pets or wild animals. In multiple pet households avoid situations such as food or toys that may provoke confrontation between your pets. If your pet bites or is bitten by a stray animal or wild animal you will need to prove that its rabies vaccination is current. Should your pet bite a human you could risk losing that pet to animal control. Always keep your pet leashed and under control outside the house and inside the house introduce to strangers carefully.

  • Domestic Animal Bites:
As long as you know that your pet is protected with its own vaccinations you have only to deal with the wound. The trauma of a confrontation can be as damaging as the actual injury. However if the bite(s) are severe, cover with a sterile gauze and apply a pressure bandage and bring to the clinic immediately.
  • Wild Animal Bites:
As long as you know that your pet is protected with its own vaccinations you have only to deal with the wound. The trauma of a confrontation can be as damaging as the actual injury. However if the bite(s) are severe, cover with a sterile gauze and apply a pressure bandage and bring to the clinic immediately. Do not approach the wild animal yourself and should you come into direct contact with any attacking wild animal, please report this to us immediately. The Chester County Health Department will want to talk to you.

Please report bizarre behavior of wild animals to: the
West Chester Department of Health 610-344-6000 or
Pennsylvania Game Commission
